Background

Dr. Barnett is a comprehensive ophthalmologist who provides personalized medical care for patients with a wide range of eye conditions, such as dry eye, glaucoma, and diabetic eye disease. After earning his undergraduate degree in Biology with honors from Washington University in St. Louis, he returned to his hometown in New York to earn his M.D. at Stony Brook School of Medicine. He then moved to Nashville to complete his residency in Ophthalmology at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute.

Drawn to Nashville’s welcoming community, Dr. Barnett decided to make Music City his home. He initially worked at the Nashville and Murfreesboro VA hospitals, providing eye care to veterans, before transitioning to a full-time role at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute. Throughout his career, Dr. Barnett has received awards for academic excellence, research, and teaching. He remains active in medical education and has a passion for mentoring residents and medical students, believing that training the next generation of physicians is one of the most meaningful ways to contribute to the future of medicine. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, writing, and playing jazz piano.
